Graphic Recording & Facilitation
What is it??
Graphic Recording is a powerful way to capture the essence of a workshop, strategy session,
brainstorming session, team meeting, conference or retreat. Mural sized paper is used, together with coloured pens,
pastels, icons & graphics (and exceptional listening skills), to capture the content. This mural creates a visual image
that layers the learning and amplifies the outcomes, creating a living, lasting record of the session, meeting,
conference or retreat. Graphic recording is a phenomenally powerful way to give participants a visual connection to
the material, and can create a story that engages and captivates.
Graphically recording an event is another way of
demonstrating powerful listening – the words come through the graphic recorders ears and out through their hands –
in a unique and inspiring way. Imagine seeing your words(or your teams)captured on mural sized paper and beautifully
and visually illustrated: “people who know the power of words put them in writing”.

A great many people process and store information visually – if they don’t see it, they don’t
fully understand it. Seeing is not only believing with graphic recording – seeing is transforming. Graphic recording
creates new connections and meaning.
If you are looking to create a point of difference; to capture the
attention and spirit of your team in a new and impactful way; to create a
living & lasting memory of an important event; to captivate your team and
inspire them to even greater creativity in their interactions and production
– contact us to graphic record your next workshop, strategy session,
brainstorming session, team meeting, conference or retreat.
Graphic recording can be used in almost any environment where people
come together to share information and ideas with one another.
“Graphic Recorders are modern-day cave artists, visionaries, scribes,
teachers, learners, illustrators and historians … all keepers of the
precious written word and imaginings of voices and hearts. Our practice
has roots in ancient traditions of paying attention, reflecting,
recording and ‘remembering for the future’. We help bring ideas forward,
help collaboration, help direct the ‘light’ to the individual and
collective wisdom in this world.”
Leslie Salmon-Zhu (co-founder of International Forum of Visual
Practitioners) as quoted in “Making the Magic Happen”, article by Mary
Brake, Facilitation News, Spring ‘99
“What
constitutes a good graphic recorder is the ability not only to depict
visually and instantly what is going on, but to bring a quality of
listening to the process that is sensitively attuned to the emotions,
feelings and dynamics going on in the room. You have to care about
everything that everyone says, to really get people’s points and
represent them. When people collectively put ideas up on a board the
focus automatically shifts from me to we”.
Susan Kelly (graphic recording pioneer) as quoted in Commongood
Magazine, Sept. ‘96
